Be a voice for osteopathic medicine!

SCOMS stays abreast of legislative issues, advocates on the state and national levels, and encourages its members to be a voice for the osteopathic medicine profession in South Carolina.

  • Physicians can collectively advocate for policies that impact healthcare on a local, regional, and national level.
  • Medical students can help educate lawmakers on osteopathic medicine and the issues facing future physicians.
  • SCOMS can provide a unified voice to address issues such as healthcare legislation, reimbursement, and regulations affecting the osteopathic profession.

SCOMS members are encouraged to participate in two advocacy efforts:

DO Day at The Dome – join with SCOMS, SOMA, and VCOM-Carolinas to visit members of the South Carolina Legislature in Columbia, SC. Together, we will increase awareness of osteopathic medicine and ask for support on issues relating to providing healthcare for the citizens of South Carolina.

DO Day on Capitol Hill – this is a unique opportunity to meet face-to-face with members of Congress and staff members in Washington, DC. Participants engage with lawmakers and ask them to support legislation that is vital to the practice and principles of osteopathic medicine.
